USA Kansas and BetterLesson are excited to announce the Flexible Learning Innovation Cohort! This semester-long experience is an opportunity for leaders throughout Kansas to come together to build deeper understanding of the flexible learning environment and share innovative ideas for supporting student-centered learning whether virtual or in-person. This experience has two components:
We've extended the registration deadline to FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 5. For everyone who missed Workshop #1 in January, we've scheduled another session on this topic for Friday, February 12. If there is enough interest, this will be a live workshop, and if numbers are low, we'll share the recording from January to catch everyone up before Workshop #2.

Participating schools are asked to have two leaders commit to the cohort. At least one leader is required to participate in coaching, but both can enroll in coaching if interested. Schools will be expected to fund the cost of 1:1 coaching, which is $775 per leader. Click the link below to reserve your spot in the cohort.
This workshop is intended to support educators who want to learn more about how they can enhance their approach to concurrent learning to improve learning and teaching outcomes. In this session, we'll explore three instructional levers for improving engagement in concurrent classrooms, including improving relationships, increasing interactivity and accountability with live formative assessments, and creating systems for peer collaboration.
Flexible learning requires deep communication and partnership with families. Leaders should ensure teachers do not bear the full burden of partnership by considering issues like expectations, trust, and resource planning. In this workshop, leaders will explore some ‘essential caretaker connections’ that serve as the best practices for how we can support and leverage families in the success of their students, while balancing key guidelines for communication and teacher support to drive success of any plan.
While the "COVID slide" may lead to unusually large learning loss this year, educators must always grapple with how to help students close academic gaps. There are no shortcuts, but there are strategies that accelerate learning. In this workshop, leaders will:
* Define the "remediation paradox"
* Explore scenarios and how consistency, data, equity, flexibility, and stakeholders play a role
* Build and get peer feedback on a plan to help teachers address gaps
Cultivating a reflective, positive school culture that supports staff wellness is essential for leadership. By developing those practices with their team, leaders also model how to support students through an emotional and traumatic time. In this session, we discuss how leaders can attune themselves to the emotional needs of individuals and teams within a learning community
LOOKING BACK TO BETTER LOOK AHEAD
While the pandemic has forced us to make changes, often against our will, it has also led us to create new assets, to grow new skills in our staff and students, and it is crucial to reflect on these new strengths in a way that can set us up for success in the 2021 - 2022 school year.
This final workshop will help the cohort identify strengths and areas of growth after 18 months of flexible learning and will help each school leader create a vision and an action plan for starting the 2021 - 2022 school year in an impactful way that leverages all the innovations generated thru the crisis.
Our virtual workshops are highly collaborative and participatory -- they are not a webinar! Virtual learning workshops are roughly 2 hours each and use Zoom video conferencing. Throughout the workshop, a BetterLesson coach will support educators to:
What are learning norms for when we are in a Session?
