Course Description:

Instructional leadership that is rooted in coaching helps to elevate a teacher’s craft through goal-setting, actionable next steps, targeted observation, and personalized feedback. At BetterLesson, we believe the most effective observation and feedback cycles support educators to try new strategies in their classrooms, immediately measure the effectiveness of those strategies through evidence, and then reflect on and learn from the results.  We call this the “Try-Measure-Learn” (TML) methodology. The TML process integrates easily into any formal or informal observation system.

As a participant in this online mini-course, which features synchronous and asynchronous components, you will build your understanding of BetterLesson’s TML coaching methodology and our digital platform, the BetterLesson Lab.

The course will delve into four professional growth areas:

  • Monitoring instruction via frequent classroom observations and review of student learning data
  • Giving teachers focused, actionable feedback on their practice based on evidence collected from observations and student learning data
  • Supporting teachers to develop and reflect on goals that support student growth and achievement
  • Coaching teachers to try high-quality strategies that are aligned with their goals

The structure of the course includes:

  • Three two-hour workshops via Zoom videoconference
  • Access to BetterLesson’s Learning Lab app, which includes dozens of high-quality instructional strategies and a digital space to document your progress
